Don’t Fear The Part 107 Recurrent Exam

Uncategorized Sep 26, 2022

Passing the Part 107 for the first time is an exciting accomplishment. With your license in hand, you have opened yourself to a whole new world of opportunity as a commercial drone pilot. For the next two years, you can legally fly for profit. The sky is the limit, or at least 400 feet AGL.

So, what happens after the two years pass? Well, you have to take the Part 107 recurrent exam.

I have recently seen several questions regarding the recurrent test. In some cases, people are understandably concerned about recertification. I have even suspected a few people have decided not to pursue a career as a commercial drone pilot because of the need for recertification every two years.

If you are worried, take a deep breath and breathe a sigh of relief. Passing the recurrent exam is very easy. With Altitude University, you get lifetime access to our course. We update the materials whenever the FAA makes a change, so you are always ready for the exam anytime your recurrent test comes up.

First thing is first when it comes to the recurrent exam; you need to score 100%. Before you panic, let me assure you everyone can do this. The exam is broken into sections, and whenever you get an answer wrong, you just go back and select the correct answer. On top of that, the exam is free and all online!

You start by enrolling in the FAA's Part 107 Small UAS Recurrent course. The course covers the following material.

  • Applicable regulations relating to UAS rating privileged, limitations, and flight operation
  • Airspace classification, operating requirements, and flight restrictions affecting small unmanned aircraft operation
  • Aviation weather sources and effects of weather on small unmanned aircraft performance
  • Small unmanned aircraft loading
  • Emergency procedures
  • Crew resource management
  • Radio communications procedures
  • Determining the performance of small unmanned aircraft
  • Physiological effects of drugs and alcohol
  • Aeronautical decision-making and judgment
  • Airport operations
  • Maintenance and preflight inspection procedures
  • Operations at night

Once you complete the course, you will notice you can click on a button to take the exam.

The exam is just like the course: you must select the correct answers to all the questions. I rushed through my first attempt on the Part 107 exam recurrent test and missed a few questions. After taking my time to review the missed questions, my score improved to 100%. The system then generates a certificate of completion authorizing you for another two years as a licensed commercial drone pilot.

Pretty easy, right?

Hopefully, you can now see that there is nothing to worry about when it comes to the recurrent exam. I took my first recurrent exam when it was still administered in person. Having also now taken the online exam, I can say it is effortless to pass and has the added bonus of being free.

If the test has got you stressed, don't worry. Between reviewing Altitude University's lifetime access materials and the format of the recurrent exam, you are sure to pass!
